Men's Soccer Trio Earns NAIA Scholar-Athletes Honors

Lindsey Wilson College seniors Samuel Asante and Chris Williams and junior Lebogang Moloto were among 286 student-athletes to be named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Soccer Scholar-Athletes, NAIA officials announced on Friday.

The award is reserved to those student-athletes that have achieved at least a junior academic standing and maintained a 3.50 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Williams earns his second NAIA Scholar-Athlete award while Asante and Moloto earn their first national academic honor. All three student-athletes were named Academic All Mid-South Conference earlier this season.

Williams is a communication major from Flint, Wales. Williams is a two-time NAIA All-American and a three-time All Mid-South Conference performer. This season, Williams has scored nine goals and assisted on two others while anchoring the Blue Raider defense that has allowed just 10 goals in 21 matches.

Asante is a biology major from Sunyani, Ghana. Asante has five goals and five assists this season.

Moloto is a communication major from Polokwane, South Africa. He earned NAIA All-American honors each of the last two seasons, including first-team honors in 2009. Moloto is a three-time all-conference selection. He has 10 goals and nine assists this season.

The trio has helped Lindsey Wilson reach the NAIA National Tournament semifinals after capturing the MSC regular season and tournament titles during the season. The Blue Raiders (21-0) face Baker (Kan.) University at 6 p.m. CT today in Orange Beach, Ala in the second national semifinal.
