Overall activities for the 55th Reunion of RCHS Class of '56 were participated in by forty-four class members. A luncheon, held on September 10, 2011, at the Porch in Russell Springs, was attended by 28 class members. Another sixteen members sent in photos, stories, and greetings. Charles Hill all the way from Wichita, KS, was recognized as having communicated over the greatest distance. "Hello to everyone," he wrote. "Wish I could be there with you."

Copies of a new publication were presented, along with a current directory and funny "Word Searches," featuring names and events of 1956, which from all reports everyone remembered entirely accurately! Several guests also attended.

The publication, titled "Memories and More," is edited by Ollye Tine Snow Reynolds with photography by Jim and Patsy Burd Stiegler and LaDonna Harris Woodward. The featured group (with individual photos) for this issue are "Honor Students and Class Officers, Then and Now" of the graduating class. A different group will be featured in the next issue.

A brief program was presented by Jack Blair with hilarious stories and also by Donnie Gosser, who also gave the blessing. The same story about Lewell Wilson was once again presented (must be the one given most often at reunions, right?). The only death since the last reunion was John Ragle, much beloved by class members.

The Reunion Team of Jean Nokes, Sylvia Stapp , and Alma Duffy were organizers of the event. Thanks to all who participated and financially contributed to the Reunion Team for organizing the event.

ALL class members, whether you attended this reunion or not, should submit the three categories of requested material for the next booklet to Ollye Tine S. Reynolds (see directory) by July 1, 2012. Copies of candid photos and class photo can be ordered from the Stieglers and also Jean Nokes. All phone numbers and addresses are in class directory.African-American Graduates of this Class had attended Jackman High in Columbia:The story feature of this first issue of the new publication is information about the role of the class in the historic school integration that occurred at that time, which was the senior year of this class.

Included is the first part of a story by Betty Jean Williams Morris, the only surviving first African-American graduate of RCHS. This school year of '55-'56 was the first year for racial integration that had been ordered for the nation by the Supreme Court. What happened at RCHS during that process is given in this first-person account. Betty, her brother Marshall Williams (now a resident of Jamestown ) and his later wife Shirley Ann Garr (now deceased) and other African-American school mates from Jamestown had previously attended Jackmann High School in Columbia, KY.As Betty writes, not all was complete bliss during that experience. Betty now lives in Indianapolis.

Greetings from teachers of the Class of '56 are included in the booklet - Mrs. Garmoline Carpenter and Mr. Almond Sullivan, Jr (through his sister Betty Ollie Wheat).

Bios featured in this issue of the booklet are: Carole Holt Tupman, retired employee of Russell Co. Board of Ed; Dr. Harry Stephenson (graduating early, associate from Class of '55) ophthalmologist in Lousville; and Donnie Gosser, long-time owner of The Hub Electrical Supply in Elizabethtown and trustee of Campbellsville University. In addition, bios of all Honor Students are included in a premier half-issue of "Memories and More" sent earlier to Honor Students.

The next reunion will be held in 2013. -OLLYE TINE SNOW REYNOLDS
