JIM recalls worker who replaced basket atop courthouse Comments re photo 42845 Scenic Adair Co KY Things in the middle of the roadBy JIM This photo brought to mind an article from the Dec. 3rd, 1941, Adair County News concerning a recent visit by a former Columbia citizen, Mr. Louis (L.V.) Hall, and made me wonder if some of his handiwork were visible in the picture. Mr. Hall was a tinner by trade who blew into Columbia in the closing days of 1899. Less than a year later, he had wooed, won, and wed Miss Lillie, a daughter of Laura and the late Andy Powell. The young family departed Columbia about 1911 and by 1914 they resided near Dallas, Texas. The above-mentioned article read, in part: "Mr. Louis Hall of San Angelo, Texas, was the guest of friends here Thursday and Friday...his first return trip since 1911... He recalled replacing the iron grillwork basket atop the Court House 41 years ago with the aid of J.F. Patteson." -JIM This story was posted on 2011-11-27 14:52:32
