Barbara Armitage recalls what London Bridge did for Lake Havasu City, AZ Thinks it would be cool to get the Free KY 80 bridge Comments about: KDE offering KY 80 Bridge for free By Barbara Armitage This is just the coolest thing I've heard of in a long time. Well actually it's the coolest thing in 49 years because that's when I heard about the London Bridge. I read an article in the Weekly Reader (remember those?) about how the London Bridge was falling down and a man in Lake Havasu City, Arizona came to the rescue. He bought the bridge for $2,460.000.00 and moved it piece by piece to Lake Havasu City. Dismantling, shipping and reconstruction took 9 years but the once famous London landmark now connects Lake Havasu with Thompson Bay. Millions of people have visited the bridge that put Lake Havasu City on the map. Lake Havasu City now has over 1,000 businesses, two newspapers and a college. The next time someone tells you that they can make you a good deal on a bridge maybe you should listen to them. I think that we should get our tape measures out and find a place to put a bridge. After all free bridges don't come along every day.-BARBARA ARMITAGE This story was posted on 2011-10-24 16:13:16
