A Columbia, KY connection at the World Series

Great news! Chamber President's son-in-law is National Winner
'I thought you might be interested in knowing there will be a Columbia, KY connection to one of the World Series games.' -RON HEATH

By Ron Heath

My wife and I will be heading to Hilliard, OH this week to watch our grandaughter while our son-in-law, Tim Wisecup, and daughter, Kim, head to the World Series.

This past summer our son-in-law entered a contest sponsored by Pepsimax and major league baseball to pick a "Field of Dreams All-Star Team."

Out of 2.5 million entries, he was selected as one of four national semi-finalists to put together a team of friends to play a Field of Dreams All Star team. The winner was to be chosen by whichever semi-finalist got the most votes.

Voting extended over a 3 week period. One Sunday evening in September when the Field of Dreams All Star team was announced ESPN also did segments on each of the four semi-finalists.

When all the votes were counted our son-in-law got a surprise call from a representative with Pepsi informing him that he is the winner.

Next spring the Field of Dreams All Star team will go to a yet-to-be-named stadium near Columbus, OH to play a game.

This Field of Dreams team is composed of the following former Hall of Fame baseball players: Johnny Bench, Ken Griffey, Jr., Rod Carew, Tony Gwinn, Reggie Jackson, Edgar Martinez, Cal Ripken, Jr., Mike Schmidt, and Frank Thomas. The pitchers will be Randy Johnson and Dennis Eckersly. This game will be open to the public.

The even more astounding news is that Pepsi is flying Tim and Kim to either St. Louis or Milwaukee (whichever team makes it to the World Series) where during the second game, he will have the honor to throw out the first pitch.

A story about his throwing out the first pitch appears in today's issue of the Columbus Dispatch. I went on their website and found it near the bottom of the homepage under the title "Fan gets shot at the bigs"
