Question: What happened to old courthouse bell? JIM poses Great Question of the Ages: In Mike Watson's History of Adair County (v 1 p 51), he notes that when plans were laid in to build a new courthouse in the 1880s, "C.J. and Uriah L. Taylor purchased the old courthouse for the sum of $180. This did not include the bell, chairs, stoves, tables, or the stone under the columns." I have to wonder if the old bell were installed in the new courthouse upon completion of that structure. Another question for The Great Minds of Adair County, I suppose. -jim This story was posted on 2011-10-15 12:29:15
