News from Adair County School District

Overall results from the 2011 ACT administered to juniors of Adair County High School show Adair County students performed as well or better than 16 surrounding districts and nearly equal to the state average.

Phyllis Curry, Supervisor of Instruction, shared the news at Thursday night's Board of Education meeting, August 21, 2011.

One-hundred sixty (160) Adair County juniors took the ACT test. Adair County Schools ranked 68th out of 169 school districts in the Commonwealth. Adair County's composite score was 18.6, very near the state average of 18.8. Out of 15 nearby districts, Adair County was ahead of 11 and tied with two.

Colleges and Universities rely on ACT scores as part of acceptance criteria. ACT scores are also used by institutions of higher learning to determine scholarship eligibility. Low scores in certain areas may require that a student take remedial coursework instead of credit-generating coursework.

Superintendent Darrell Treece said he views the data as encouraging, and noted that both schools and students must have high goals in order to be successful.

"We must offer students the preparation they need in order to achieve after they leave our school system", he said.

Comparison information is also available through the Kentucky Department of Education website at www.kde.org.
