Greensburg's Donovan Burton is Defensive Player of the Game PLAYERS OF THE GAME - Evansville Central vs. Green County Offense - Bryant Hooper, Evansville CentralDonovan Burton went 55 yards to give Green County a 20-15 lead at the half ATTENDANCE: 1,300 at Finley Stadium, 204 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY By Chris Megginson CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Evansville Central eliminated the Green County Dragons' big play opportunities in the second half and ran its way to a 22-20 victory Saturday in the third annual Forcht Bank Bowl at Campbellsville University's HIG Field at Finley Stadium. Green County chose to receive the ball to start the game and didn't waste much time to get on the board, as Cody Houchens found a seem and broke 78 yards for a touchdown within the first two minutes of play. Weston McDermott collected his only carry of the game on a 2-point try to give GCHS an early 8-0 lead. Evansville Central ate up the clock in the first quarter with part of its 102 yards passing in the half. Jacob Hester put Central on the clock on the first play of the second quarter on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. David Garrett converted the 2-point try to even the score with 11:57 to play in the half. After Green County regained the lead, 14-8, on a 12-yard run by Chavis McDermott, Hester answered with a 6-yard pass to Chris Tomlinson. Jacob Anderson's kick was good to take a 15-14 lead midway through the quarter. The Dragons answered with another big-play score, as Donovan Burton went 55 yards to give Green County a 20-15 lead at the half. Central's defense locked down the Green County offense in the second half, allowing only 21 yards total, all on the ground. In contrast, Garrett's wheels were burning, racking up 96 yards in the second half. His 3-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds left in the third quarter was the Bears' game winner. Anderson's kick was good to give Central a 22-20 lead. Late in the game, Evansville was threatening but coughed the ball up on the Green County 36. Garrett took it right back, picking off a pass near midfield and allowing the Bears to run out the clock for the season-opening win. Game two of the day was between Larue County and North Bullitt. On Friday, Campbellsville High School started the two-day Forcht Bank Bowl with a 52-7 win over Adair County and Russell County defeated Marion County, 48-21.
