One-three-one hundred to boost the Adair County economy

A suggestion to start this Monday morning, posted after being inspired to do so by the editorial comment "Victoria Pike voices pro-Adair County product policy"Special ColumbiaMagazine.com

A Columbia man saw this idea on a recent visit to San Diego. It's a grassroots movement idea which could - ground up - save local businesses, build the local economy, and strengthened the values Adair Countians hold dear. It works like this

- If every One in Adair County would look around to see the businesses they aren't doing business with but would hate to see gone from the Adair County scene and make a simple commitment to

- Select Three of them

-And spend $100 with each of them
Adair County's local businesses would prosper beyond imagination.

Each month, select three different businesses to patronize, and repeat the same formula every month. It's simply putting one's money where one's mouth is. Putting into practice what most say they believe.

When the neighborhood country store goes out of business, it's a costly matter to drive to town just for a dozen eggs, a loaf of bread, or a gallon of milk. When the little dress shop or shoe store is gone, it's missed. When the hardware store with its cases of Case knives and knowledgeable clerks behind the counter is gone, it's lamented. When the local restaurant with serving home grown vegetables is gone and we watch fast food-induced obesity ruin our children's health, we wonder why.

When the downtown shops shutter their doors and are no more, when the buslines stop running, when the jewelry store, the shoe repair shop, the variety store with loose candy is gone, when the local repair services are gone.

That shouldn't happen with this idea.
