Buyers represent galleries, museum shops, resort shops, jewelry stores, luxury catalogs and boutiques carrying designer-made fashion and accessories. Kentucky's exhibiting artists arrive in Baltimore after a triple selection process. They first have to be accepted into the Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Crafted Program based on artistic excellence. They are then selected to be a part of the Kentucky Crafted booth at the Buyers Market based on market readiness. Finally, they are approved by the Buyers Market of American Craft for quality. This rigorous process gives buyers the opportunity to stock their shelves with the work of some of Kentucky's most outstanding craft artists in fiber, wood, silver and ceramics. Kentucky Crafted is a program of the Kentucky Arts Council that enables Kentucky artists and craftspeople to reach regional, national and international markets through state-sponsored wholesale and retail promotional venues. Acceptance into the program is based on artistic excellence in design and technique, originality (or authenticity for traditional work) and marketability. There are currently 386 juried visual and craft artists in the Kentucky Crafted Program. The Kentucky Arts Council is the state arts agency, creating opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. This story was posted on 2011-07-07 17:14:37
