COLUMBIA, KY - Summer is less than a week old, but members from Campbellsville (KY) University and Lindsey Wilson College had the Christmas season on their minds when they gathered recently at LWC.

Members from the two colleges met at LWC last week to talk about Operation Christmas Child, a fundraising program that sends shoeboxes packed with toys, school supplies and personal hygiene items shipped to disadvantaged children in developing and Third World countries.

The two schools' freshmen classes combined to collect 1,077 shoeboxes last year. This year, the two schools aim to donate a combined 2,011 boxes. The campaign's theme is "Operation Together for God's Glory - Lindsey Wilson College and Campbellsville University."

Operation Christmas Child is coordinated by Samaritan's Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical aid to people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped worked with victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease and famine.
