Travel: Take the scenic route and avoid the queue on I-65

I-65 construction work creates lengthy delays in Barren, Hart, LaRue and Hardin Counties

Kiersten Jaggers, KDE District 3, Bowling Green, KY

BOWLING GREEN, KY (June 23, 2011) - Will you be traveling on I-65 through south-central Kentucky this summer? If so, you many want to consider an alternate path, especially if your itinerary takes you through Barren, Hart, LaRue and Hardin Counties.

This two-lane section of I-65 between Bowling Green and Elizabethtown can become quite congested with lengthy back-ups due to the construction work.

Various construction jobs will be ongoing through November of this year for those counties, most of which will involve day time lane closures requiring traffic to be pushed down to one lane. Night time lane closures will also be used occasionally.

The bulk of this work will take place between Monday and Thursday. Lane closures will not be used for Friday-Sunday but may be implemented for emergency situations only.

To avoid long delays, motorists may wish to take a parallel route such as US 31W or US 31E, both of which tie back into I-65 at Elizabethtown.

For additional information about I-65 construction work in Hart, LaRue and Hardin Counties contact Chris Jessie at (270) 401-3193. For construction work in Barren County contact Keirsten Jaggers at (270) 202-0446.
