Grandmother was baptized at Mouth of Butler Memories of the Grider family, Sulphur Creek, and McGaha, KY By E.H. Lepiarczyk II My grandmother, Effie Burton Grider (1896-1987), was baptized at the 'Mouth of Butler' in Sulphur Creek when she was a young girl. Her father and mother, Chrisley Burton (1853-1939) and Priscilla Elizabeth Harmon Burton (1857-1932), were charter members of the Pleasant View Baptist Church, known as the 'Mouth of Butler' Church. The former Pleasant View Baptist Church, "the log church", is one of the most prominent landmarks of the McGaha community. My grandmother, Effie Burton Grider, was born and raised in the McGaha community. She always spoke well of the community where she grew up. "Mother Grider" was always proud of the McGaha community. Brother Moxley officiated the baptism of my grandmother at the 'Mouth of Butler'. McGaha is a rich part of my family's history. Mother Grider attended schools near McGaha when she was growing up: Oak Grove School in the Oak Grove community and Grassy Springs School in the Grassy Springs community. Grassy Springs School was a new school when Mother Grider was a pupil there. Also, Brother Grimsley conducted a subscription school in the former Pleasant View Baptist Church, where Mother Grider was a pupil during her formative years. After graduating from Grassy Springs School, Mother Grider was the first member of the Burton family to have attended high school in Columbia. McGaha is beautiful scenery of God's creation; the landscape is one of Adair County's finest. Proud of My McGaha Heritage, Erwin Heinrich Lepiarczyk II - E.
