Amber Loy wins First Grade Spelling Bee held at Col. Casey Top Spellers: Amber Loy, Alexis Burton, Brayden Smith, and Jeremy Bailey Click on headline for full story, photo(s) By Alan Reed News from the Adair County School District Colonel William Casey Elementary School held its first ever grade level Spelling Bee, Friday, May 20, 2011. Contenders representing each first grade homeroom eventually squared off for the title. Amber Loy was declared the winner after correctly spelling the word "mint". Pam Geisselhardt, Primary Talent Pool Coordinator for Adair County Schools, served as the moderator for the event. According to Wikipedia, the first officially sanctioned spelling bee in the U.S. was won by 11 year old Frank Neuhauser.
