Patriot Guard ceremonies: Seth Akin funeral -Album

A number of photos have been posted commemorating the first Patriot Guard Riders funeral tribute in Adair Co., KY, for the services at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home and Antioch Cemetery for Seth Akin.

Patriot Guard pays tribute to Seth Akin

Campbellsville Street was ablaze with Red, White and Blue today for the 1pmCT funeral of Seth Akin at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home. The Flag Line was just part of the 30 flags posted by the Patriot Guard Riders to honor the memory of a comrade in arms.

Patriot Guard Riders honor Seth Akin

Patriot Guard Senior Ride Captain Shawn O'Keefe of Bowling Green, KY, talked with Tudor Simpson, Indianapolis, IN, a cousin of Seth Akin before the funeral service today. O'Keefe led a detachment of at least 15 Patriot Guard Riders, who placed flag lines with a total of 30 U.S. Flags along Campbellsville and Reed Streets. During the funeral, the PGR took the flags down in Columbia and rearranged them at Antioch Cemetery for burial ceremonies, after which they returned to Columbia to provide a Patriot Guard Escort for the procession on it's seven mile route from Grissom-Martin Funeral Home to Antioch Cemetery, near Sparksville, KY.

A single Patriot Guard Rider

Patriot Guard Rider Joe Hare of Columbia, KY was the solitary figure on Reed Street after helping to arrange the flag line on Reed Street. Hare, a Black Lion veteran of the Vietnam War, was one of three members from Columbia, besides his wife, Pat Hare, and C.R. Drake.

Going for last minute details

Patriot Guard Rider Daniel Hayes, Campbellsville, KY left, went over some last minute details with Senior Ride Captain Shawn O'Keefe before the funeral for Seth A. Akin. Hayes, owner of Purcell's Office Supply in Campbellsville, was one of four Taylor Countians riding today. The others were Phil Davis, Barbara Davis, and Joe Robinson.

Home to Antioch: Patriot Guard leads procession for Seth Akin

Patriot Guard Riders led the procession carrying Seth Akin home to his final resting place in Antioch Cemetery, entering from Burkesville RD through Flag Lines which were placed while the service was in session back in Columbia. The Patriot Guard Riders are all volunteers whose services are rendered only at the request of close family members. Their work, at this point, continued with and beautiful farewell tribute graveside to a fellow member of the armed forces of the United States.

Three great women assist Patriot Guard Riders

Three great wives came out to help the PGR mission yesterday in Columbia, KY, honoring SPC Seth Akin. Two of the ladies, Pat Hare on left and Toni O'Keefe were both on their first missions. Barbara Davis, center, is a veteran of many missions with her husband Ed Davis of Campbellsville, KY Pat Hare is the wife of Joe Hare from Columbia and Toni is the wife of Patriot Guard Senior Ride Captain Shawn O'Keefe of Bowling Green.
