Dr. Roger D. Smith, DMD: Taxpayers are leery of industry recruiters

Roger D. Smith, DMD writes:
Ed--If my memory serves several thousands of dollars (tax-payer dollars) have been spent over the last few years on folks who were hired to be industrial recruiters for Adair County and Columbia.

Perhaps, the general public, i.e. the tax payer, is somewhat leery of a new tax or additional taxes to secure businesses. It would seem sensible that we send a delegation to Edmonton since they are a smaller community and seek their advice on securing factories due to their success over the past few years.

I do believe those folks would charge less. I can only relate what one recruiter told me a few years ago when I sought his input. "I don't have time and I'm not interested in your proposal." Maybe that's the attitude of too many of our leaders! -Roger D. Smith, DMD
