Posted Downtown Speed Limits vary by point of entry

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

Just as a matter of fact, the speed limit onto our Downtown Square, around the Square, and off the Square is variable and contingent upon which road is bringing you Downtown.
  • The posted speed limit entering, rounding, and departing from Burkesville Street is 25 mph.

  • The posted speed limit entering, rounding, and departing from Greensburg Street is 25 mph.

  • The posted speed limit entering, rounding, and departing from Campbellsville Street is 25 mph.

  • The posted speed limit entering, rounding, and departing from Jamestown Street is 35 mph.

  • The posted speed limit entering, rounding, and departing from East Hwy 80 is 45 mph.
No wonder the local police don't write tickets for speeding in Downtown Columbia. One would need to launch a somewhat major investigation into point of origin to determine if a motorist had indeed broken the posted speed limit law. -Billy Joe Fudge
