Click on headline for full story with photo By Chris Wells, Sports Information Director News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY (2011-05-16) - Mike Talley has been named Lindsey Wilson College's director of athletic facilities and event management, school officials announced on Monday. Talley begins his new position after serving as the head coach of the Lindsey Wilson baseball program for the past 19 seasons. "I'm very excited about this new challenge and for the opportunity to continue serving Lindsey Wilson College and the athletic department in a new capacity," Talley said. "The hands-on, day-to-day activities with all of our athletic programs are something that I've been eager to embrace for some time now. "After working in game management with football last fall, it only fueled my desire to make this natural step into administration." Talley will be responsible for the daily operation of all outdoor athletic facilities, including the 21-acre Lindsey Wilson Sports Park which houses the LWC baseball, football, softball and track & field programs. Additionally, Talley will handle game management responsibilities for all athletic events on campus, with specific responsibilities for football and men's and women's basketball. Talley was the top choice of Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler. "The concept of adding the position of director of athletic facilities and event management began the moment the college made the commitment to expand its athletics program and construct the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park," Pooler said. "I've always known I would approach Mike about this position when it became a reality. He is a skillful administrator who cares deeply about Lindsey Wilson College, its mission and students. "As our baseball coach, he always went above and beyond to provide a professional atmosphere for our students and spectators during our home games. I know he will do the same for all of our programs." Talley said the decision to step away from coaching was difficult, but he looks forward to sharing his knowledge with the other Lindsey Wilson College athletic programs. "I've had the opportunity to build incredible relationships for nearly 20 years with my former and current baseball student-athletes," Talley said. "My family and I were thorough in our approach to this decision and we felt that it was the right time to make this move." Talley concluded the 2011 season with a program-record 496 wins in his 19 seasons. He is a two-time conference coach of the year and the 2000 NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year. Prior to becoming the Blue Raiders coach, Talley pitched at Lindsey Wilson during the 1988-91 seasons. Despite shoulder problems, he was a key member of the school's first team to reach 20 wins in a season in 1990. In his new role, Talley is excited to continue building relationships with student-athletes. "I know there will be a learning curve as there is with any new position," Talley said. "But I'm excited about the chance to interact with all of our programs and to enhance the overall experience of each student-athlete." A national search will begin immediately for Talley's successor. Interested applicants should apply through the Lindsey Wilson College human resources department at Lindsey.edu. This story was posted on 2011-05-16 10:16:08
