Adair Co. PRIDE Spring Clean-up TODAY, Saturday, May 7, 2011.

May be biggest ever cleanup, but more are still needed. Volunteers will gather at the parking lot behind the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY for a kickoff, sign up, passing out of safety vests, pep talk. There will be coffee, orange juice, and doughnuts available. At 11amCT, the volunteers will report to the Roadside Park, 2310 Hwy 55 South RD, Columbia, KY, Columbia, KY, for a cookout. A large number of volunteers are registered to clean roads. Many are doing the work as fundraisers for their organizations, while, at the same time, beautifying the county in time for spring and summer tourist seasons, reunions, homecomings, and, especially, as a patriotic gesture for Memorial Day. Whether a group is already registered or not, every able bodied Adair Countian is needed today.

Among the over 35 groups already registered, which includes over 425 volunteers, are:


Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Leader Edward Benningfield. 15 volunteers working on Mt. Carmel Road. Johnston Cemetery RD, Kellyville RD, and Bridgewater RD.

Mt. Zion Church of God. Leader Dana Hixson, 17 volunteers working on Roley-Yuma, Union Church, Eastridge Cemetery, and Carroll Ridge Roads.

Adair Co. Middle School 7th Grade Baseball Team. Leader Mark Hutcheson. 20 volunteers cleaning C. Long, C Long LN, Wesley RD, Marion Smith RD, Development DR (Green River Commerce Park), Keltner RD, and Leslie Keltner RD.

Adair Co. Middle School 8th Grade Baseball Team. Leader Mark Hutcheson. Cleaning Beechtop RD, Beechtop LN, bault RD, Doug White RD, page RD, and Vanhoy LN.
