GWS Lexicon: New nominee word arrives just Wahlago By Sharon Whitehurst Perhaps you or your readers can help us "in-comers" with a fine point of interpretation. Daughter G. came back from Walmart yesterday with a phrase that is new to us. "Wahlago": spoken as one word. From the context she gathers it translates in our "from away" speak as "awhile ago." This would seem a useful remark to accompany the scratching of one's head in a thoughtful manner when appealed to for recollection of a past happening. While not referring to ancient history, there's a suggestion that an event which happend wahlago requires a judicious review before a declaration of facts can be made. I'm not good at phonetic spelling and would appreciate a better rendition of the phrase. I would pronounce "awhile" with a long "I" and the "H" and "L" would definitely be heard. -Sharon Whitehurst This story was posted on 2011-05-04 16:31:26
