Somernites Cruise April '11 "Fisheye lens of an old Ford. Favorite pic of the day," -Brent Thompson writes. Seen in the ColumbiaMagazine group on Flickr. The image will have to evoke memories for many Adair Countians who owned one of these classics, then sold by Morris Epperson and Louis Merkley at the Adair Sales Co., dealership. Someone else will have to tell us whether the firm's 203 Burkesville Street showroom and lot had been built at the time, or whether they were still in the location just off the square on Campbellsville ST. -CM

Pink '57 Bel Air Chevrolet looks pretty good

"Somernites Cruise April '11 A pink Bel Air, actually looked very good," writes Brent Thompson of this icon of Chevydom, a one year of a kind car with distinctive tail fins made only in 1957. They were sold locally by Columbia Motors (maybe Phelps Motors by then, with T.P. "Cotton" Phelps the owner, after he bought the business from C.D. Wethington), the Chevrolet dealership which was then on Greensburg ST, in part of what is now Stotts-Phelps-McQeary Funeral Home. Many of them were stashed in the lot behind that building, which is now part of the funeral home.
