Campbellsville University's Tanya Murtagh, Dublin, Ireland, is Freshman Player of the Year Click on headline for full story plus photo(s) By Chris Wells, Information Director Mid South Conference LOUISVILLE, KY - For the third consecutive year, Lindsey Wilson College junior Trina Slapeka is the Mid-South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, conference officials announced today, Friday, April 22, 2011. Slapeka finished the regular season with a 13-2 singles record, including a 5-0 conference mark playing as the Blue Raiders top singles player. She was selected as the conference's top player by a vote from the conference coaches. Slapeka is joined on the eight-woman singles all-conference team by Lindsey Wilson sophomores Slavica Milanovic and Laura Vergara. Milanovic finished the regular season with an 11-4 singles record, including 4-1 in conference while Vergara ended 14-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Joining the Lindsey Wilson trio on the all-conference singles team is Campbellsville University's Anita Henestrosa and Tanya Murtagh, University of the Cumberlands' Neesha Thirumalaichelvam and Georgetown College's Adrienne Bartlett and Haley Hart. Slapeka and Milanovic were one of four doubles teams to earn all-conference honors. The pair is 12-3 this season playing as Lindsey Wilson's top doubles team and 5-0 in conference play. Campbellsville's Henestrosa and Murtagh, Cumberlands' Thirumalaichelvam and Kelcey Bauer, Georgetown's Bartlett and Kaitlyn Thompson join Slapeka and Milanovic on the all-conference team. Murtagh was selected by the conference coaches as the MSC Freshman of the Year. Eleven student-athletes earned academic all-conference for maintaining at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and being a sophomore or higher standing. Members of the academic all-conference team include Campbellsville's Henestrosa and Melanie Jones; Cumberlands' Bauer, Alissa Ellis and Kaitlin Smith; Georgetown's Bartlett and Hart; Lindsey Wilson's Slapeka and Vergara; and University of Virginia's College at Wise's Megan Buchanon and Kayla Kilgore. No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson College has the day off and is scheduled to face the winner of third-seeded University of the Cumberlands and sixth-seeded UVa.-Wise at 5pmCT on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the University of Louisville's Bass-Rudd Tennis Center, 350 Warnock ST, Louisville, KY.
