Mrs. Zelma Davis Gardner, Green Co., KY (1923-2011)

She was a native of Hart Co., KY. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer for 25 years. She was a graduate of Hart Memorial High School and Western Kentucky University. She taught school in Green County for three years, then became Green County's second home extension agent, serving two years with John Ewing before becoming a full time mother and farm wife

Mrs. Zelma Laverne Gardner of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, KY.

The funeral services for Mrs. Zelma Davis Gardner will be conducted at 10amCT, Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Ladies Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Garnett Wayne Davis will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 4pm-8pmCT, Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Saturday, until time of the funeral service.



Pallbearers: Kyle Ray, Matt Shaw, James Patterson, Lanny Tucker, Jon Baird, Matt Huttinger, and Jerry Arnett.

Honorary pallbearers: Gary Ferguson, Ken Ferguson, and Cody Ray.

Mrs. Zelma Davis Gardner, Green Co., KY (1923-2011)

Mrs. Zelma Laverne Gardner was the daughter of the late James Porter Davis and Zilpa McCandless Davis. She was born on Thursday, June 21, 1923 in Hart Co., KY, and departed this life on Monday, April 18, 2011 in Campbellsville, Taylor Co., KY. She was 87 years, 9 months and 28 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer for 25 years. She was a graduate of Hart Memorial High School and Western Kentucky University where she majored in Home Economics.

She united in marriage to Rollin Gardner on December 21, 1945, then moved to Green County where she taught school for three years before becoming Green County's second Home Extension Agent. She held that position for two years working with John Ewing before leaving to become a full time mother and farm wife. Mr. Gardner preceded her in death on May 22, 2010.

Survivors include the following:
  • A son: Steve Gardner of Lexington, KY

  • A daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Jerry Shaw of Lawrenceburg, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Matthew Shaw of Miami, Florida, Bailey Shaw of Lawrenceburg, KY; and Marta Gardner of Versailles, KY

  • Two great-grandchildren: Kyle Ray of Cecilia and Brody Huttinger of Indiana

  • A brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Todd and Mary Jean Gardner of Greensburg, KY

  • And a host of other relatives and friends.
The Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY, in charge of arrangements.
