Unemployment picture improves in March 2011 Special ColumbiaMagaine.com story Unemployment in the 7-County area was noticeably improved for the March 2011 period vs. the month earlier, with Metcalfe County showing the greatest improvement, 1.7%, followed by Adair County and Cumberland County, each showing 1.4% fewer unemployed in the period.For the Seven Counties, unemployment trend change, and % unemployed for March 2011. 1) (tie) Green Co., down 1.2% to 10.3%Even with it's 1.7% improvement, Metcalfe County remained one of the state's most troubled economies, ranking fourth highest in terms of unemployment for the March 2011 reporting period. All of the area counties had more unemployment than the nation as a whole, which had 9.2% unemployed and were worse off than the statewide figure of 10.2%, though Green and Taylor Counties were close to that figure.
