The Kentucky State Police are featuring a legendary ride for their 2011 Trooper Island raffle. With a heritage that dates back to the All-American muscle cars of the early 1960s, today's updated Ford Mustang GT Coupe offers increased power, smart handling, responsible fuel economy and a distinctive growl. This pony is fast. Using advanced technology, its 5.0 liter, dual overhead cam V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission deliver 412 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Despite this enhanced performance, the Mustang has a surprisingly low thirst that's easy on the pocket. Its EPA fuel economy ratings average 18 miles-per-gallon city and 25 highway. Sporting a shiny black exterior coat with faded "GT" side stripes and a charcoal black natural grain interior, this breed is outfitted with electric, rather than hydraulic, power-assist steering and suspension "wizardry" that, according to Motor Trend magazine, "makes it the best handling Mustang ever." Rounding out its tack is a "California Special" appearance package that includes 19-inch, painted alloy, 10-spoke wheel rims; a chrome billet grille with stylized, tri-color galloping pony emblem; unique matte black, lower front bumper moulding with fog lamps; a pedestal rear spoiler; a rear decklid California Special emblem with faux gas cap; black, carpeted GT floor mats and side scoops. Wrapped in a five-year, 60,000 mile powertrain warranty and three-year, 36,000 mile bumper -to-bumper protection, this mount is one sweet ride. "It's an absolute blast to drive," says Automotive.com. "It's quick off the mark with a brawny sound, crisp handling and tight suspension." "It's the best all-around pony car of 2011," writes Edmunds.com. "The V-8 really hauls the mail, cranking out thumping performance all the way to its 7,000 rpm limit and it sounds great while doing it too." KSP Sgt. Craig Sutton, director of the Trooper Island Camp, is looking forward to a large response to the raffle. "The funds raised by the raffle will help tremendously with several projects such as adding central heat and air conditioning to the cafeteria, repairing the walk-in freezer and updating the recreation hall." Tickets are $10 each. For a chance to put your brand on a 2011 Ford Mustang, contact any Kentucky State Trooper, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer or any of the 16 KSP posts located throughout the state. Only 20,000 tickets will be sold. The winning ticket will be drawn on August 28, 2011, at the Kentucky State Fair. Ticket holders do not have to be present at the drawing to win. Located on Dale Hollow Lake in Clinton County, Trooper Island is a free summer camp for underprivileged boys and girls age 10-12. It is financed entirely by donations. No public funds are used. Each year, the camp hosts approximately 700 children, providing good food, fresh air, recreation, guidance and structured, esteem-building activities designed to build good citizenship and positive relationships with law enforcement officers.
