Travel: Bridgeport Beauty. An album by Johnnietta Jessie Click on headline for introduction plus photos By Ed Waggener Johnnietta Jessie frequently walks the roads and streams around Bridgeport, just over the hill from Bennett Ridge in Adair County, and records scenes of one of the most picturesque communities seen anywhere. The old town, also know as East Fork, once had its own post office and general store, run last, maybe, by Zack Coleman. The community is now firmly connected to the county seat in Edmonton with the second bridge in 45 years, though a few residents can remember having to trek over Bennett's Ridge and cutting through to the Iron Bridge to get to Town to pay taxes, buy groceries from Old Man Witty, visit Dr. Emberton, or pay homage to Woodrow I, Metcalfe County's longest reigning monarch.East Fork is also the land of Elmview United Methodist Church and Edro Keltner, who probably saw the wolf-like creature - which terrified the local residents for a time in the mid 1960s - than any other person. It was a stop on turkey drives from Glasgow to Edmonton to Columbia, Campbellsville, and Lebanon. An important place on the trade maps of the world of the early 20th century. Today, it is a delightful milestone for pilgrims on a ham hadj who take the short cuts to Sulphur Well for a fix of the addictive delicacy made famous there. Today, there are hints of a grander day. But it has never been prettier than it is today. Fortunately, the town is loved by Johnietta Jessie, a native of Adair County, and her walking companion Georgetta (Knight), from the West Bank of divided Bridgeport, who together spot and record beautiful seasonal changes in the village.
