Very special day in Birthdays: A delightful, intentional coincidence Today is L.G. "Peanut" McKinley's 83rd birthday. That's special, but the occasion is even more special for this World War II, South Pacific Theater Naval Veteran. It is also his 60th anniversary. On April 14, 1951, he and bride Helen Fay Waggener exchanged wedding vows - vows which have endured 60 years now - at the close of a revival service at the Columbia Baptist Church. The church was packed in those days, when it was obligatory for everyone from every church to attend every other church's revivals. There were six Southern Baptist ministers present that day. The pastor, Dr. W.H. Moody, a highly gifted speaker from Tallapoosa, Georgia officiated. Those who remember Dr. Moody remember is elegant style, his penchant for summery seersucker suits, and the big black Roadmaster Buick he drove around Columbia. The steadfast loyalty of the McKinley family - through many triumphs and and too many never forgotten tragedies - has been an inspiration to our family and, we know from what so many, many acquaintances have told us - to the wider community as well. Happy birthday, Old Veteran. Happy Anniversary, Fay and Peanut. We're so proud of you and all your wonderful family. So grateful to be a part of it. Your Waggener sibs and spouses: Annette and Jim Richards, Ed and Linda Waggener, Jean Cravens, Ralph & Glinda Waggener; and remembering, Arthur Lee Waggener and Paul J. Cravens.
