Tennis Legend Henry Baughman serves ceremonial First Serve Click on headline for full story, photo(s) By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College Tennis legend Henry Baughman helped christen on Friday afternoon the new Lindsey Wilson College tennis complex that shares his name. Baughman served a ceremonial first serve before the match between the Lindsey Wilson-Cumberland (TN.) University men's and women's tennis teams. Friday's match was the second home match LWC's tennis teams have played on the courts of the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex, but it was the first match with weather that permitted a ceremonial first serve. And the Blue Raiders made it a memorable day for Baughman. The women's team, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, beat Cumberland 5-1. The men led Cumberland 4-2 when the match was suspended because of rain. It will be completed on Tuesday. The six-court Baughman Tennis Complex, which features lights for evening play, was made possible thanks to a lead gift by Baughman, who lives in Smithfield, KY. Baughman, who was born and raised in Lincoln County, KY., is a retired Western Kentucky University professor who taught health and safety, and he helped start the university's emergency medical technologist/training program. Baughman has been ranked No. 1 in Kentucky more than 60 times, and 15 times he has been ranked No. 1 in the nine-state United States Tennis Association Southern, the largest association in the United States. He has also earned a No. 4 national ranking in 70 and over singles. Earlier this year, Baughman was inducted into the U.S. Tennis Association Southern Tennis Hall Of Fame.
