He was the patriarch of a large, respected Russell Co., KY, family. He was an auto mechanic and a member of the Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and Navy

Norman H. Guffey, 88, Jamestown, KY, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

A private service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 Main ST, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Garnett Hammond the officiating clergy. Burial will be in Jamestown Cemetery. Friends may call after 5pmCT, Tuesday, March 28, 2011, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers: Rhonda Stapp, Timothy Dykes, Heather Dykes, Lindsay Sayers, and Bethany Stapp.

Honorary pallbearers: Christian Dykes, Billy Wayne Harlow, Mickey Garner, Jimmy W. Guffey, Jeffery Guffey, and Matt McQueary.

He was born in Clinton Co., KY, Wednesday, March 7, 1923. He was the son of the late Rozenna Bell Guffey and James Mack Guffey. He died Saturday, March 26, 2011, in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY, at the age of 88 years, and 19 days.

He was an auto mechanic and a member of the Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth York Guffey; a brother, Johnny Guffey; a daughter, Linda Faye Guffey; and four sisters, Bertha George, Lorene Thurston, Maxine Wooten, and Hazel Bunch.

He is survived by the following:
  • Two daughters: Helen (Elmer) Dykes; Kay Hartman, both of Jamestown, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Lindsay Sayers, Christian Dykes, and Bethany Stapp

  • One brother: James Guffey, Glasgow, KY

  • Two sisters: Angie Compton, Mt. Vernon, KY; and Shirley (Billy) Booher, Columbia, KY

  • Bernard Funeral Home, 367 Main ST, Rusell Springs, KY, in charge of arrangements.
