Jim examines the births number conundrum By Jim Upon reading your March 22nd "dearth of birthdays" lament, I decided to do a bit of research. In the 10-year span 1961-1970 (a decade picked at random), there were 2,850 births recorded in Adair County. Were the births perfectly distributed, there would have been slightly over 24 in each March, for a total of 242 in the decade. The actual number was very close to that at 234, an average of seven and a half in each day of the month. However, the number for March 22nd was considerably above the average at 11 - six males, five females. All of this means something, no doubt, but my tired old brain is quite tied up this chilly, overcast day in a knot of Gordian quality. For the life of me I can't figure out how today can be my 31st wedding anniversary when my mother-in-law's daughter had attained her majority at the time we married but is only 37 now. Is there an arithmetician in the house? This story was posted on 2011-03-22 10:23:53
