Emilee Camfield wins Adair County AARP/KRTA essay contest "Fun and crazy, caring and fair grandparent." Gail Camfield, is subject of winner's entry in contest to honor Grandparent of the Year Click on headline for story plus photo(s) By Rita Campbell A John Adair Intermediate School student was selected Adair County Winner in the "2010-2011" Grandparent of the Year" essay contest sponsored by AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teachers' Association (KRTA). Emilee Camfield, Columbia, Kentucky is among thousands of Kentucky fifth graders who participated in the 10th Annual Essay competition for 2010-2011. Students submitted essays answering "Why my Grandparent should be the AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year" to their 5th grade teachers. A committee selected the school's winner. Each participating school winner and school receives recognition certificates. Emilee wrote the essay in Ms. Judy Bradshaw's classroom. As county winner, Emilee Camfield received a framed certificate for her efforts, and the essay will be submitted for district competition. She and other district winners them become eligible to participate in the state finals. In a recognition ceremony the "Grandparent of the Year" and student are honored at the Annual KRTA Convention in Louisville on April 19, 2011. The state winner also receives a $100 savings bond. Emilee was presented with $25 from the Adair County Retired Teachers' Association. The "AARP Grandparent of the Year" essay contest is organized by local Retired Teacher Association units and AARP Kentucky Chapters, who help secure local school participation and promote the activity. Ms. Rita Campbell served as coordinator of the AARP Grandparent Essay Contest in Adair County. Emilee is the daughter of Leeanna Willis.
