City, county have deal with CBC to buy Christian Life Center

Exact price not yet released. City and County have 90 days to close deal. Plan is to use the center for a park and for a Senior Citizens Center. Columbia Baptists will concentrate on Downtown Columbia Campus

News from Columbia Baptist Church

The Columbia Baptist Church has announced that an agreement has been reached for the County and City to purchase the Columbia Baptist Church Christian Life Center Property near the junction of Highway 61 North and the Columbia Bypass. The proposed agreement suggests the County and City to utilize the property for a multipurpose facility including a Senior Citizen Center and Park and Recreation Facility.

According to the church statement, the facility was built in 1980 by the Columbia Baptist Church for its members and also for the entire community. "We are proud to say this facility has long served our community well, and our decision to go through with the sale of the property is comforted with the promise that it will continue to be used for the benefit of our community. The visionary leadership of the church made this facility one of the first of its kind in this area, and we are proud to have served the community well with it.

"The only reason for the decision to sell the property is the ongoing transportation issue to and from our church facility downtown to the Christian Life Center Property and the ever-increasing associated costs and time of the transportation. With the sale of the property, we plan to focus on expanding our downtown facilities on the main church campus located on Greensburg Street in downtown Columbia. We feel this is a win - win decision that has been made for the church and for the community."

The tentative agreement will give the county and city up to 90 days to close on the property.

The deal was negotiated by Chris Wilson of Golden Rule - Wilson Real Estate & Auction. Wilson said that due to privacy laws and the transaction not being fully completed as of yet, the exact purchase price cannot be made public until the transaction has closed. Wilson went on to say: "The church gave much consideration for the property being used by the county and city to continue serving the public interest. I commend the church for its strong commitment to community leadership - it is a good deal for the church, and its members should be proud. I will go on to say the county and city negotiated a very fair deal for the tax payers they represent - it will be a very nice and well located facility for all intended purposes. As stated, it is truly a win - win for everyone involved."
