Historic Event: Veterans Memorial Bypass dedication Robert Flowers will be keynote speaker. CJE Ann Melton, Mayor Mark Harris will host. Dignitaries from Kentucky Department of Transportation, Senate President David Williams, and Adair County's Hilda Legg will offer remarks Related: Veterans List By Ed Waggener The Adair Veterans Memorial Bypass Dedication Ceremony is growing into the major event it should be to recognize Adair County's military service men and women. It will take place at 10amCT, Monday, February 14, 2011, at Milepoint 15 on the Columbia Western Bypass. Parking will be available in the James Medical Center Parking lot near the interesection of the Columbia Bypass and Campbellsville RD, (MAP). Judge Ann Melton has announced that Jim Flowers will be the keynote speaker.He is expected to include memories of his late father's, Alfred Flowers', service as a belly gunner on bombing missions, in World War II. Flowers will be joined by other dignitaries including Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials, Senate President David Williams of Burkesville, KY, Adair County favorite daughter Hilda Legg, and the hosts, Columbia Mayor Mark D. Harris and County Judge Executive Ann Melton, who initiated the campaign to honor veterans in this significant way. Gov. Steve Beshear was invited, Judge Melton said, but he has responded that he cannot be here. A Veterans Appreciation Breakfast, hosted by CJE Melton and Mayor Harris, will precede the dedication.
