Baptist Church sends thanks for response to Eulogy by Dr. Taylor Comments re article 42017 Eulogy for Ms Emily SargentBy Gerald Chafin News from ColumbiaBaptist Church On behalf of Columbia Baptist Church we are grateful to acknowledge the numerous responses this week to Dr. Taylor's message given at the memorial service of our beloved Emily Sargent. (C.M. article 42017) Indeed, our church deeply loves "Miss Emily" and her wonderful sister, Mary Francis, and we know that these comments on Columbia Magazine are a source of strength and encouragement to Miss Emily's family. Members of our church know the precise location where Emily and Mary Francis sat together each Sunday during worship. I recall many conversations on Sunday evenings when both Emily and Mary Francis had us laughing just by their amazing way of telling a story. My personal story is that Emily was the first member of our church that I met when moving to Columbia. Meeting by Divine appointment, she helped our family find a home here. Then, several months later when I began attending Columbia Baptist Church, I was delighted to learn that I would be working with Emily and a team of others who rotated in leading the Scripture reading. I remember that Emily emphatically said that she never wanted to read a passage with the name "Melchizedek" in it! (Truthfully, no one on our team did either!) Truly, we are sustained by the Scriptures. I know Mary Francis understands "that nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:39). -Gerald Chafin, Minister of Music & Worship , Columbia Baptist Church This story was posted on 2011-01-28 16:24:30
