Obituary: Leon Coomer, 83, Russell Springs, KY

He was a member of a large, respected Northeast Adair Co., family, a native of Adair Co., KY, a farmer, and attended the Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church.

Leon Coomer, age 83 years of Russell Springs, KY formerly of the Millerfield Community in Adair County passed away Friday, December 17, 2010 at 6:05amCT at the Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs, KY after several months illness.

Funeral service will be Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 1:30pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Richard Lehman the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY. The family request visiting after 3:30pmCT on Saturday, Deember 18, 2010, at the funeral home.



Leon Coomer, Adair Co., KY (1926-2010)

He was born December 29, 1926. He was the son of the late Freeman and Rachel Marie Gibson Coomer of Adair County, KY. He died December 17, 2010, in Russell Springs, Russell Co., KY, at the age of 83 years. 11 months, and 18 days.

He is survived by the following:
  • One daughter: Carol Wilson and her husband Oscar of Russell Springs, KY

  • One brother: Landon Coomer of the Millerfield Community

  • Two sisters: Renea Kerns of Lebanon Junction, KY; and Estelene Hayes of Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by a sister Matra Stargel and an infant brother, Forbes Coomer.

Mr. Coomer attended the Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church and was a farmer.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, Columbia, KY in charge of arrangements.
