Obituary: Carl Benson, Sr., 89, Russell Co., KY

He was former owner and operator of Avalon Restaurant in Russell Springs, KY, and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He was a US Army veteran of World War II

Carl Benson, Sr., 89, Aaron DR, Russell Springs, KY, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY.

The funeral will be Saturday, December 4, 2010, at 12 pm noon CT at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 Main ST, Russell Springs, KY, with Rev. Don Emerson the officiating clergy. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fairfield, OH. Visitation will be from 6pm-8pmCT, Friday, December 3, 2010 at the funeral home.



Carl Benson, Sr., Russell Co., KY (1921-2010)

He was born in Tennesse Ridge, TN, on October 10, 1921. He was the son of the late Christina Bendsten Benson and August Benson. He died Wednesday, December 1, 2010, in Russell Springs, Russell Co., KY at the age of 89 years, 1 month, and 21 days.

He was the former owner and operator of the Avalon Restaurant. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.Mr. Benson was a US Army veteran of World War II.He was preceded in death by a brother, John Benson; a sister, Anna Ferris, and a step grandchild, Erik Emerson.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Benson and the following:
  • Three sons: Carl (Andrea) Benson, Jr., Hamilton, OH; Gary (Deborah) Benson, Fairfield, OH; and Mike (Sharon) Benson, Russell Springs, KY

  • Ten grandchildren

  • Eleven great grandchildren

  • Three step children: Larry (Pam) Emerson, Somerset, KY; Don (Yvonne) Emerson, Russell Springs, KY; and Sherry (Greg) Redmon, Russell Springs, KY

  • Five step grandchildren

  • Four step great grandchildren
