Starkville MS.- A disappointing finish ended what was a feel-good afternoon for the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team as it traveled to Mississippi State University on Saturday afternoon for its first exhibition of the season.

After going toe-to-toe with the Southeastern Conference giant for 37 minutes, the Blue Raiders were unable to score the final three en route to a 75-66 loss.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore Kalen Kimberland scored a team-high 21 points. Junior Justin Archie added 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Blue Raiders led by as many as seven points in the opening half before a Bulldog rally cut the lead to 36-34 at the break.

Mississippi State sprinted out to a 50-41 lead following Ravern Johnson's three-pointer with 13:37 left in the game. Johnson finished with a game-high 25 points.

But the Blue Raiders refused to go away.

Lindsey Wilson began its comeback with a three-pointer by senior Jeremiah Diebler at the 11:40 mark and a Kimberland three 20 seconds later to cut the lead to 52-49.

The Blue Raiders continued their methodical climb back towards the lead with back-to-back baskets by juniors Rayshawn Alexander and Charles Baker to go ahead 62-61 lead with 6:50 left.

Kimberland would score the Blue Raiders next two baskets - the final score breaking the eighth tie of the game - to give LWC a 66-64 lead with 3:25 left. It would the last Lindsey Wilson points of the game.

Mississippi State closed with 11 straight points, including 6-for-6 at the free throw line to win 75-66.

The Blue Raiders finished the game shooting just 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the field, but committed just 10 turnovers. The Bulldogs shot 52.2 percent (24-of-46) for the game.
