16 year old Adair Co. male dies in KY 92 wreck

Passenger in 1985 Toyota PU pronounced dead at the scene by Adair Coroner Rick Wilson. Driver of vehicle lodged in Adair County Youth Development Center, Columbia, KY, facing drug and alcohol, manslaughter charges. Adair County Sheriff's Department Deputy continues the investigation. Names of juveniles not released at this time. Obituary of 16 year old passenger has not yet been received.

A 16 year old Adair County male was pronounced dead at the scene by Adair County Coroner Rick Wilson following a wreck on KY 92, seven miles south of Columbia, KY, near midnight, Friday, October 22, 2010, at approximately 11:39pmCT.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17 year old Adair County male, was treated and released at Westlake Regional Hospital, Columbia, KY. He was arrested and placed in the Adair County Youth Development Center in Columbia, facing two charges:


  1. Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol, 1st offense
  2. Manslaughter
The names of the juveniles are not being released at this time.

The incident was investigated by Deputy B.J. Bray.

According to the Adair County Sheriff's department, the tragedy occurred as occupants were traveling westbound on Kentucky 92 in a 1985 Toyota pickup. The vehicle dropped off the westbound shoulder, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and struck an earthen embankment on the eastbound shoulder. The vehicle overturned and came to a rest in the Eastbound lane of KY 92.

The 16 year old male passenger was partially ejected.

Deputy Bray is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Kentucky State Police, and a unit of the Adair County Search and Rescue. Also on the scene were units from the Adair County EMS and the Adair County Fire Department. Deputy Joey Burris assisted Deputy Bray at Westlake Regional Hospital.
