ACHS Boys Golf history making season comes to end

Boys golf team just one stroke short of making one day cut. Van Giles has 10th best 1st day card in State Tournament. Coach Burton says Giles, Alex Durham, Colby Robertson, Daniel Rarey, and RIley Grant are special, a tremendous bunch of young men. 'I am certain that they will continue to achieve in the game of life just as they did the game of golf this year.'

News from Adair County High School Athletics

The ACHS' S Boy's Golf Team came up a little short on their bid at a State Title at Bowling Green. The Indians shot a team score of 330 to finish in 13th place.

The Indians failed to make the one day cut line by a mere 1 stroke.

The top 12 teams got to compete a second day in order to crown the State Champion. Lexington Christian Academy took home the 2010 State Title.

Van Giles led the tribe's scorecard with an outstanding round of 74, good enough for a 10th place tie on the first day. Alex Durham's 83, Colby Robertson's 86, Daniel Rarey's 87, and Riley Grant's 96 finished out the tribe's scorecard.

Van Giles's 74 was good enough to earn him a second day chance at an Individual State Title. Van's effort came up short as he carded a 85 second day score. This gave him the honor of finishing in a tie for 32nd place overall.

Words cannot describe how proud I am of these boys. These boys fought to the end, like they have all season long; we just came up 1 shot short.

This is a tremendous bunch of young men. I am certain that they will continue to achieve in the game of life just as they did the game of golf this year. They are special.

The ACHS Boys finished the season with a match play record of 19 wins and 4 losses.

Tournament finishes are as follows:
  • 1st Place Kentucky Hills Invitational
  • 1st Place Heartland Conference Tournament
  • 3rd Place Dale Hollow Invitational
  • 3rd Place Warren East Invitational
  • 5th Place Rosewood Invitational
  • and 2010 Boys 4th Region Runner-Up
The Entire ACHS Golf Family would like to thank Columbia Magazine and the entire Adair County Community for their tremendous support all season long. -Steve Burton
