100 Years Ago: A bonus, a blessing from Sano Rejoicing for Corpore Sano in Sano celebrated in 1910 newsletter. The tribulation of great illness was all around, but Sano in The Sacred Triangle was spared; health of community very good By "Jim" I came across this fall, 1910 missive from Sano while researching the News for a future "100 years ago" column. Without a doubt, the last entry in the letter inspired all inhabitants of the *Sacred Triangle to greater heights: The health of this community is very good. (Nearly all the other newsletters made mention of sickness or deaths from the diphtheria epidemic which had had Adair County in its grip for several weeks.)*Lest we be accused of Esotericism, the aforesaid Sacred Triangle is the blessed and righteous land defined inside and immediately outside the bounds of a line from Sano to Esto thence to Ono in Russell County, KY. A question for scholars: The 1910 correspondent refers to "Our little town, in the Eastern part of Adair County. The crossroads of Downtown Sano, today, are deep within The County, maybe a few hundred feet. Has the town up and moved to Russell County, or was the Greater Portion of Sano in Adair County 100 years ago? If so, Adair has suffered a loss - not being able to claim Sano - might near as bad as when the Republicans gave away prime Bear Land to Metcalfe County just because the then Western Adair County area was inhabited by so many intellectually curious, highly desirable Democrats. Heaven's loss was Woodrow's gain. -CM This story was posted on 2010-09-29 10:17:06
