Over 3,100 fans pack Blue Raider Stadium
Lindsey Wilson College: "Winning in the classroom, winning in our community, winning in life, and winning future national championships," President Wm. T. Luckey Click on headline for story plus photo(s)
By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College
Columbia, KY - More than 3,100 people witnessed on Saturday an "historic day in the life of Lindsey Wilson College." They packed Blue Raider Stadium to watch Lindsey Wilson play its first football game in almost 75 years.
The Blue Raiders lost 14-10 to visiting Notre Dame (Ohio) College, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the record crowd that attended the game.
As LWC President William T. Luckey Jr. said in pre-game remarks to the crowd, Saturday was but a beginning and a celebration of the college's student-athletes.
"Today we have the opportunity to earn it - to begin laying the foundation for a culture of winning," Luckey said. "Winning in the classroom, winning in our community, winning in life, and winning future national championships."

Aerial view showing parking
2010-09-05 - Photo By Perry Parrish. Columbia, KYU
Parking lots were filled along Russell RD, bottom part of photo and along Carrie Bolin DR, on the right. Hanley LN, a little known street one year ago, now has one of Columbia's most famous addresses, 820 Hanley LN, home of Lindsey Wilson Sports Park. Hanley LN is the road starting on the middle right, of the photo, running diagonally to the left , where the old and new paving meet. 820 Hanley LN is Columbia's equivalent of 1060 W. Addison Avenue, Chicago, IL, but more. 1060 W. Addison is a mere baseball field. It would need Da Bears, a softball field, a track facility, and a comparable skyline to come close to matching Lindsey Wilson Sports Park. Several sports organizations and others picked up $5 per car parking the overflow parking for the game. Parking is just one of the economic changes to develop around the stadium. Interest in property around the facility has increased. And restaurants around town experience pre- and post-game rushes. Photographer/pilot Perry Parrish took the picture through the canopy of Pilot Alan Reed's Piper airplane. Read More... | Comments? | Click here to share, print, or bookmark this photo.
