July 2010 jobless rates down in 6 of 7 area counties

Unemployment was down in Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, and Russell Counties, KY, and the same in Taylor County in July 2010 vs. July 2009.

Unemployment rates, CM area counties
  1. Cumberland Co. unemployment rate, 9.8%
  2. Russell Co. unemployment rate, 10.1%
  3. Adair Co. unemployment rate, 10.2%
  4. Taylor Co. unemployment rate, 10.3%
  5. Casey Co. unemployment rate, 10.7%
  6. Green Co., unemployment rate, 12.7%
  7. Metcalfe Co. unemployment, 15.5%
Metcalfe County, though down 1% vs. the year before, still had the third highest unemployment of any of the commonwealth's 120 counties.



The highest joblessness recorded was 18.1% in Magoffin County and 16.2% in Jackson County.

The state unemployment rate for the period was 9.9%, while the U.S. comparable rate was 9.7%.
