House where Selby's machine was 3 miles from Butler Fort About: Adair Co KY perpetual motion machine Was it a water ram? By Patricia Holladay Bennett We did not suggest a "ram pump" was built at the Butler Fort. I do not care to argue that point, or the semantics of ram pump. The invention was purported to have been tried at the Junction of 80/61 on the Gilmer/Dohoney farm where Walmart is now, and we have pictures of its stone shelter and the tunnel from the old house which was a 3 story brick with a wooden roof which burned (supposedly). It burned after lightning struck it and many years later brick was still being plowed up by my great uncle James and my father, Frank Holladay. This oral legend came from the Dohoneys and Flowers who heard it first hand from their grandmother, Esther Gilmer Dohoney. I was not referring to the Casey home that stands now, only to my family home, which is different. I did not specify that the Indians attacking were members of our community. Renegade Indians came through here raiding in the 1700s. This story was posted on 2010-06-28 13:45:57
