A review of lecture on life Rev. Carl Loy of Fairplay, KY Minister raised in the Fairplay community of Adair Co., KY, became a widely known and esteemed preacher, and author. He was in the ministry for 62 years. He was pastor of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Jamestown, Russell Co., KY, and of Pierce's Chapel on Yellowhammer RD in the Fairplay community of Adair County Click on headline for story plus photo By Ernestine Bennett, Genealogical Librarian News from Adair County Genealogical Society This past Monday night at our monthly Genealogy meeting at the Adair Co. Public Library Laverne Jessee and Joan Wheat discussed the life and works of the late Rev. Carl Loy. He was the pastor for 17 years at Mount Vernon Baptist church in Jamestown, KY, the church both Laverne and Joan and their families attended. Rev. Loy would preach two Sundays a month at Mount Vernon and two at Pierce's Chapel in Fairplay, KY. Answered call to preach in August 1927 Bro. Loy answered the call to preach in August 1927 and in the spring of 1950, he became ill with a disease that left him almost paralyzed, but was able to defeat the medical odds. Through his faith and determination, overcoming his ailment. The experience deepened his theological sensibilities, enabling him to become one of the most renowned Baptist ministers of his generation. He is listed in: Who's Who in Religion,1985-1987; The Dictionary of International Biography 1975, Personalilies of the South 1973, and Who's Who in the Bluegrass State, 1966. He wrote and published 50 articles, sermons, and tracts, as well as 70 religious songs(words and music). He also wrote two books "They followed the Christ" and "The Greatest Power in the Universe". Both these are available for checkout at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. Parents were Larue and Maggie Turner Loy Bro. Loy's parents were Larue and Maggie Turner Loy and he was from the Fairplay community in Adair County. Bro. Loy was married to Jessie Grimsley Loy, who died in 1994, and his son Carl G. Loy now lives in Tennessee. Bro Loy passed away in December 1989. He was in the ministry for 62 years.
