Gradyville Flooding May 2, 2010 Bridge out Old Gradyville RD /P. Coomer RD Betsy Fausnaugh just reported the bridge in front of her home has washed out. She said that about 14' of asphalt was heaved up by the water, taking out the bridge where Old Gradyville Road intersects with Paul Coomer Road. The bridge spanned the joining of Big Creek and Cool Springs Creek. "I have never seen waves on Big Creek," Betsy said, "until today!" The water is reported to be about 12' away from her barn but she feels safe. "I can go to the mountain behind me if the water comes too close to the house." Magistrate Perry Reeder out early today surveying the damage "We're facing a mountain of road problems down here," Fourth District Magistrate Perry Reeder said early today in a call from the scene. "I'm looking toward the Gradyville Baptist Church from KY 80," he said, "and water is lapping at the door there. The road to the church is covered with water. It's a mess."Magistrate Reeder said that a lot of trees had washed out. "Gravel is washing away and piling up in the roadways," he said. "and potholes are showing up where you'd never expect them to happen. We're going to be working ourselves out of this situation for a long time," he said. This story was posted on 2010-05-02 13:05:37
