C-AC Chamber 2010 Awards Banquet: Richie and Sandy Janes

An Adair County Favorite Couple, Richie Janes and his wife Sandy, were at last night's Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet. The look from Sandy might be interepreted as a Nancy Reagan I adore you one, or it might have been an indication that she would be watching what the irrepressible Gradyvillian would say next. When Richie Janes was congratulated for being another Jimmy Reliford, a reference to the recent oil strike on his land, Sandy corrected, "You mean 'Jed Clampitt'." The Janeses operate Janes Feed and Fertilizer, the largest business in the Gradyville.

Columbia Attorney Judy Vance was honored as the 2010 Columbia Adair County Outstanding Business/Professional Woman. C-AC Chamber 2010 Awards Banquet: Jim Naviolio

Jim Naviolio, Commissioner of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, held up a card he says everyone of his department's 80 employees have to look at each day. The card says, "Remember whose money you are spending." Naviolio said that his department has been pared from over 130 employees to the current 80, and said, "We're still getting the job done. And we can still cut more." Naviolio was the keynote speaker for the 2010 Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet.

Brett Reliford, Educator of the Year

From an extremely qualified list of 17 nominees, it still came as no surprise when the choice for Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce 2010 Educator of the Year was named: Brett Reliford, Adair County A-Team Coach. Above are C-AC Chamber President Ron Heath, Brett Reliford, Adair County Schools Superintendent Darrell Treece, who made the introduction for the award, and C-AC Chamber Executive Director Sue Stivers.

Freddy Rowe, Agriculturist

Doyle Lloyd, Volunteer of the Year

Doyle Lloyd, President of the Adair County Band Boosters, holds the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award presented to him last night, Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet. Doyle Lloyd spearheaded the drives to fund the ACHS 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade appearance as well as the fund drives for the regular marching season for the band, together a quarter million dollar effort. From left are Chamber President Ron Heath, (Lloyd), Lindsey Wilson Marching Band Director Tim Allen, who introduced Lloyd, and Chamber Executive Director Sue Stivers.

C-AC Chamber 2010 Awards Banquet: Jim Navolio made Adair General

Adair County Judge Ann Melton drew laughs with a quip while presenting an Adair County General Award to Jim Navolio, standing. At left is Ron Heath, Chamber President. Judge Melton told the crowd that she had suggested to the Commissioner of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development that he would be well received if he announced a new plant for Adair County. She said that Navolio said he could do that, she said, adding, "then he said, 'but I'd have to come back down here in June and tell the people of Adair County I had lied. I wouldn't want to do that.'"

Roger Drake, Employee of the Year

Roger Drake, Vice President for Finance at Lindsey Wilson College, center is the recipient of the 2010 Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Year Award. Presenting it, left, is Chamber President Ron Heath. At right, Lindsey Wilson President Wm. Luckey introduced Vice President Drake as "one of the smartest men. At Lindsey Wilson, Vice President Drake presides over a $46 million dollar budget. Dr. Luckey said that, through Drake's financial genius, the college has financed it's spectacular growth with financing at .082% interest!
