Cub Scout Pack 888 makes positive impact

Shane Patterson, Phillip Richard, David Bava and their other leaders and parents do a great job
About: Devin Morris takes first place in Pinewood Derby

By George Kolbenschlag
President, Columbia, KY Rotary Club

Scouting is a great program for our children that we too often overlook. I have been involved in Scouting in a number of ways for years, and Pack 888 is one of the most active, effective Scout units I've seen.

They meet every Monday at Columbia United Methodist and I've had the opportunity on several occasions to watch both the Scouts and the outstanding support of these Cub Scouts' parents.

There are usually almost as many parents at the meetings as kids.Shane Patterson, Phillip Richard, David Bava and their other leaders and parents do a great job in harnessing an incredible bundle of energy into a learning experience for these young guys not only in things like the annual Pine Wood Derby, but in community service.

I've seen them helping with the the annual PRIDE pick-up and in projects at Homeplace on Green River.

They are making a positive impact on our community!
