CU to host Contagious Churches conference

By Joan C. McKinneyNews from Campbellsville University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University and the Kentucky Baptist Convention are teaming up to sponsor a conference titled "Contagious Churches and Leaders" May 11-14 at Sojourn Community Church, 930 Mary ST, Louisville, KY

The event, for church leaders, seeks anyone who is being called "as a leader to become more of a contagious missional leader who serves a missional church."

Those attending the conference will hear Dr. Reggie McNeal, missional leadership specialist with the Leadership Network, who will discuss missional leadership and how you can become a part of the new church leadership.

James Woolums, director of the Louisville Education Center and assistant professor of education, said, "This is the second year Campbellsville University has teamed with the KBC to offer a combination class and conference to help equip and train pastors to be missional, productive leaders who lead healthy, missional, reproducing churches."

He said the desire is to bring in a national speaker each year, and he is pleased with best-selling author McNeal who is leading the conference.

Last year, Lifeway Missiologist and author Dr. Ed Stetzer taught church planting to over 100 attendees.

"We are thrilled to be partnering again with Sojourn Community Church and lead pastor Dr. Daniel Montgomery," Woolums said.

"Daniel and Sojourn are a great example of what a healthy, missional, reproducing church looks like today," he said.

Among other leaders from across Kentucky who will lead sessions are: Dr. Steve Ayers, lead pastor at Hillvue Heights Baptist Church in Bowling Green, KY; Dr. Jeff Eaton, lead pastor at Hope Community Church in Lawrenceburg, KY;

Dr. Joel Carwile, lead pastor at Valley View Church in Louisville; Dr. Joe Owens, senior pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington; Dr. Virgil Grant, pastor, Eastside Baptist Church in Richmond, KY; and Dr. Dan Summerlin, pastor of Lone Oak First Baptist Church in Paducah, KY.

Eaton, Carwile and Owens are Campbellsville University alumni, and Owens is a vice chairman of the CU Board of Trustees.

Woolums said these pastors will provide "additional perspective from a variety of viewpoints. We expect a great crowd of entire church staffs to attend this event to hear Reggie on Tuesday and Wednesday and some of the above mentioned leaders speaking on Thursday and Friday."

College credit (graduate or undergraduate) for this conference can be earned through Campbellsville University, but registration must be completed prior to the conference. Contact Chris Conver at cconver@campbellsville.edu or (877) 428-4723 or 502-753-0264 for information and registration.
