Billy Joe Fudge: Earthquake insurance a good idea He remembers the earthquake felt in Adair Co., KY in 1969, and reminds readers that the New Madrid Fault may be overdue for the big one. By Billy Joe Fudge Just for your information many homeowners' insurance policies do not automatically insure against damages caused by earthquakes, and no, I do not own insurance company stock! The recent rash of strong earthquakes in Haiti, Taiwan, Chile, Baja California, Indonesia, and a tremor in New Jersey and another just west of Chicago have me thinking that something extraordinary might be brewing. With our New Madrid Fault, according to the experts, being way overdue for The Big One I checked my policy to just make sure that I was covered. I remember the buildings shaking in, I believe, the summer of `69 while working at Jeffries' Hardware. Then Libby and I had Bedford Stone and concrete cracked on our farmhouse at Sparksville, and brick damage on her house in Campbellsville in the summer of `80. Both these events were triggered by very small quakes. Although we would not expect catastrophic damages in our area even from a large quake, I certainly want to be covered when another New Madrid incident happens. The extra coverage is not very expensive and I won't be caught with incomplete coverage again. Some related links
