Raegan Deaton, Greensburg, KY, signs with LW Track & Field Green Co. High star has collected 3 KHSAA Class A state championships; as well, she was a member of the KHSAA Academic All-State First Team By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College women's track and field team has signed Green County High School state-champion Raegan Deaton to an NAIA scholarship, the school announced on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. In four seasons at Green County, Deaton collected three Kentucky Track & Field Class A State Championships and nine Region 5A Championships. I am very excited to sign Raegan, said Lindsey Wilson coach Edwin Hagans. Not only is she a good athlete, but she is also very strong academically. Any time you can combine athletic ability and intelligence, it makes for an exciting future for Lindsey Wilson running. Deaton won the 2009 Kentucky Class A State Championship in the 800 meters with a school record and personal-best time of two minutes and 20.2 seconds. In 2007, the Greensburg, KY, native collected a state title in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 5:17.86, also a school record and personal best. Deaton won her first state championship in 2005, running 3,200 meters in 12:16.58. Besides the championships, Deaton was also named the Cross Country Region 2A Runner of the Year in 2009 and won the Kentucky Class A State Track Meet Girls Sportsmanship Award the same season. I look forward to seeing what she will do this season in preparation to start her collegiate career, added Hagans. She has a lot of potential to go further in both cross country and track. Apart from her athletic prowess, Deaton was also named the 2010 Green County Junior Miss and was a member of the KHSAA Academic All-State First Team. This story was posted on 2010-03-17 17:28:20
